Summer Faves of the Year: 2014

As we head into fall, we have that "summertime sadness" where we put away our bathing suits and flip flops and get those ugs and scarves out. As much as I love Summer and getting those sun-kissed locks I also love fall! Especially burning pumpkin spice candles! So to celebrate summer 2014 let's take a look back into our favorite trends for this Summer1

Summer Color: I have to say white was my favorite trend this summer! I spent most of my Summer shopping this year and I look at my closet and see it looks like the North Pole threw up in my closet. Talk about "white Christmas".  Wearing white can be hard to rock though, if you have fair skin it can "wash you out" and make you look like a ghost. As for nails I noticed girls were painting them white, including me. Overall I think wearing white was one of my favorite trends, who doesn't want to feel like an angle in a white dress?  I wonder what the Summer color of the year will be next year?

Crop tops: This was the biggest trend and still is! Let's preserve the 80's. 30 years ago Madonna was big for wearing these. Celebrities have even worn them to award shows this year. I love the crop top dress idea, in my opinion it takes the fashion world to a whole new level. You feel pretty while showing a little cleavage. Unless your Taylor Swift who shakes it off in a crop and mini skirt, but hey she's a tall Blonde and can rock anything. :)

Wedgies: Even in the Summer time short girls like to feel tall. I realize wedges have been around for awhile but I noticed that every girl owned a pair of wedges. At my graduation we weren't allowed to wear heels so all the girls decided to wear wedges and we totally rocked them! With wedges you can wear jeans and a t-shirt and still look good!

Skater Skirts: I would put this in the Spring category but I wore my skater skirt faithfully through out the summer. With my sunflower skirt I added a creme colored shirt with ballet flats and "blossomed" in it. See what I did there? :)

Jumpsuits: I didn't see this much in the U.S. Except when my sister wore one to her graduation. But from my fellow bloggers in the U.K they told me that these were big especially in Europe. In my honest opinion jumpsuits should be worn if your in jail, not when your walking the streets. This is not one of my favorite trends.

Denim: There not just jeans, you can wear denim dresses, skirts, rompers, and jackets! Although I hadn't worn denim this Summer because it is way to hot here in Cali to even wear denim in the Summer, many girls wore denim. I think the fashion world was taken over by denim this summer.

Rompers: My last favorite trend for this Summer are rompers. I really don't know what to day about these other than there ADORABLE! There shorts and a shirt all in one!

My First Time...Wearing Make-Up+When Should Girls Start Wearing Make-up?

In honor of #throwbackthursday I decided to write a little post about my first time...using make-up! I started wearing on my 12th birthday which was nearly 3 years ago. I remember it so clearly, I had fluorescent blue make-up with bright pink blush and strawberry lip gloss. Not my best look! My intention was, I was trying to impress the boy I liked and now I know why it never went anywhere.

On that note, this brings me to the question: What age should girls start wearing make-up? Over the years there has been controversy on when young girls should start wearing make-up. I personally think 12 is an appropriate age, so I asked my fellow bloggers through twitter and asked when they thought girls should wear make-up. Here are a few replies I got.

Of course this is 100% my opinion. If girls want to wear foundation, bronzer, concealer that's totally okay. I just don't think they should

As you can see I got many responses. According to telegraph.com/UK the average age 10 years ago was 14, now it has dropped to 11. Many people have argued against this and say girls should be at least 16.  I think at any age girls want to experiment make-up, who doesn't want to feel like a princess at 5.  So here comes my final thought, I truly think there is nothing wrong with girls at the young age of 11 to start wearing make-up as long as it's not to heavy!

DIY: Make your own Exfoliator!

Do you have oily skin that and acne that won't go away? Here's my little recipe that requires a few items right in your kitchen pantry such as baking soda, and water, and lemon juice (optional). But first what is an exfoliator? Exfoliaters have been used for many centuries by women and adolescences. It is used to remove oily skin or dead skin cells that cause blemishes.

1. Get a small bowl and mix the baking soda and water together. I used 3-4 tbsp of baking soda and added 2-3 tbsp of water. You can add how ever much you want as long as you get a "paste" texture.

2. Add lemon juice to add citrus. Citrus exfoliators tend to work better because of the nutrients in the lemon.

3. Mix all ingredients

4. Apply to face using a Cotton ball or make-up remover pad. Cotton balls tend to work better as they are more soothing and easier to apply to the skin. DO NOT APPLY NEAR THE EYES!

5. Leave on face for 10-15 minutes and rinse off.

Try this once every week until noticeable results. This can cause dryness to your skin so use "light" moisturizers when finished, I suggest using Eucerin.

7 Ways To Get Stronger Nails!

We all have those days when our nails just don't look buff and pretty! You may have cut you nails to short, didn't cut them right,  or there cracked. Whatever the case may be, you want strong healthy looking nails! So here are a few tips of mine to get those purrrty nails as my kitty would say!

1. Don't bite them! One it's unattractive and two it's gross! My mother has been biting her nails for years, there so short now, that it's impossible to put nail polish on her- and she's 37! Biting nails can cause breakage and even infection under the nail.

2.  Use non-acetone nail polish remover when removing nail polish. Even though the acetone makes the process of removing the polish quicker, it causes dryness to the nail which makes new nail polish look dull. Try using the cutex nail polish remover instead I swear by this stuff and the scent is not as strong. It is sold at most drugstores in the U.S. You can buy it here.

3. Eat more calcium. Yes, your diet also effects your nails. The more calcium and protein you eat, the stronger your nails are.

4. Cuticle oil is the way to go! If you want to get softer, shinier, ails quick try putting on cuticle oil! I recommend using Apricot Cuticle Oil by Essie. It smells great and really hardens the enamel of your nail! You can find it here at ULTA for less then $10.00!

5. Don't peel off your nail polish! I've always wondered why us girls do this? Maybe PMS :)? I certainly do this when I'm nervous or bored in Algebra :) Anyways it's not at all healthy for your nails, when tearing nail polish, you could also tear the nail and cause breakage. Plus, who wants peeled nail polish on the ground?

6. Olive Oil can also moisten your nails and create shiny nails! Put about 3-4 tablespoons in of olive oil in a bowl and dip your fingertips in the mixture for 10 minutes. After your done, place your hands on a towel to dry and wash in warm water and dry!

7. Coconut oil does the same as olive oil but makes your finger more moist! Do the same procedure as he olive oil!
